Beer Can Chicken

Here’s a great recipe to kick off BBQ season. The chicken turns out super moist and flavourful. You can rub it with any spice blend, but I have provided a suggestion in the recipe below.

My favourite way to cook chicken on the BBQ and an easy way to impress your dinner guests!

Ingredients

  • 1 whole chicken
  • 1 can of beer (you could also use club soda, I’ve even heard of people using lemon-lime soda)
  • 1 tbsp chili powder
  • 1 tbsp cumin
  • 1 tbsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp cayenne pepper
  • 1 tsp oregano
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/4 cup olive oil

Directions

  1. Mix the spices with the olive oil to make a paste. Rub this all over and inside the chicken.
  2. Drink half of the beer.
  3. Place the chicken on top of the beer can. I recommend putting this into another container or tray, because the chicken will drip quite a bit. You could also put it directly on the grill.
  4. Heat the BBQ on medium-high heat (you want to try and maintain between 300 and 350F). Cook the chicken for approximately 1 hour or until a thermometer reads 180F.
