While planning my wedding during the summer of 2016, I started feeling extremely tired, was losing weight, and was experiencing extreme thirst. Thinking it was the flu or the stress of wedding planning, I postponed seeing my doctor until the thirst and fatigue became unbearable. I was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes in August, 2016 at age 25. I am still learning how to handle the daily challenges that come with diabetes, but it hasn’t stopped me from doing the things I love, including skiing, cooking, traveling with my husband, and cuddling with my Bernese Mountain dog.

Before being diagnosed, I would have called myself a foodie. After the diagnosis, I wasn’t sure if I would be able to enjoy food as much as I had in the past. However, I have quickly learned that with some extra planning, exercising moderation, and making substitutions, eating is just as enjoyable as ever!

About this blog

Through this blog, I hope to share recipes, information, and tips for living (and eating!) with diabetes. I want to spread awareness that this disease can happen to anyone at any age. I also want to share the daily struggles and victories that I experience to show the world what living with Type 1 Diabetes is really like.

If this blog helps just one person deal with living with Type 1 Diabetes, I will be overjoyed! Let’s face this together!
